Streaming Live Surgery from accross the globe.
Thursday 12 September 2002

"Yesterday, IS and Antfarm, provided a unique service to a client, Orthomedics, who required to watch a live stream of knee surgery, being performed in Australia. Antfarm provided the services necessary to receive the stream in one of our boardrooms here, at The (Dimension Data) Campus, while the Networks team provided 256kbps of fibre bandwidth from our London POP.

What makes this event yesterday even more unique, is the fact that, based on comments received via a chat session, used by viewers of the stream, only viewers in the USA, and here, at the Campus, received a clear, uninterrupted stream. Viewers in Australia, New Zealand and the UK experienced problems viewing the stream. I believe that events like this prove that the Internet has an important role in building a boundaryless society, and making communication possible at totally different level. It also shows an application that does make a difference to people's lives, in spreading knowledge on surgery techniques.

The customer was very pleased with the stream, and will most probably approach us for future events. (I believe the next one will be a 700kbps stream!)

I think that the guys from Antfarm certainly have proven the power of streaming through this event. The Networks team also did a great job, in making this possible."
